Home lab

Whenever I can test something before moving to production I always try using a lab. This can either be at the office or at home where I can use my “home lab”. The choice of the hardware for my personal home lab is dictated primarily by the available budget and the “sustainability” considering this environment will be maintained at home. A good opportunity not just to learn and rehearsal the main steps but also an handy source for my blog articles. Ideally I’m also looking at scalable setups for future additions with availability in mind. The current setup includes:

  • VMware ESXi 6.0 U2

  • Veeam Backup and Restore

  • Intel NUC 6i5SYH with 32GB RAM / SSD 512GB

  • NetGear GigaBit Switch (unmanaged)

  • Synology 4 Bays with RAID 10

  • 4TB for VMs (iSCSI Target)

  • 1TB for Backups / ISO / Apps / Templates (iSCSI Target)

  • 1TB for Miscellaneus (iSCSI Target)
