In the previous article we explored the first installation steps for Veeam ONE Server. We are now ready to quickly view the actions to add the virtual infrastructure to Veeam ONE Monitor. The process is very simple and the same concept applies to several types of infrastructure including:
VMware
- Standalone vSphere Hosts (licensed ones with the Veeam Enterprise version)
- vCenter Servers
- vCloud Director
Hyper-V
- Standalone Hyper-V Hosts
- Fail-over Hyper-V Cluster
- SCVMM Servers
Veeam
- Backup & Replication Servers
- Backup Enterprise Manager Servers
From a single Veeam ONE Monitor we can manage multiple environments. The next steps will show how to add a VMware vCenter infrastructure and a Veeam Backup & Replication Server.
Monitor VMware vCenter
From the ribbon we can either select Add Server or simply hit CTRL+I to start the wizard as per screenshot below. In our case let’s start adding a vCenter Server selecting the first option.
Let’s specify now the FQDN name of the vCenter Server. I always recommend to make sure both forward and reverse name resolution with FQDN names. This is very important as some components use FQDN names for infra-communications. Let’s leave vCenter option selected. The Enterprise version of Veeam ONE can only add licensed vSphere Hosts. Whereas the Free Veeam ONE can operate with both.
Let’s add the credentials to manage the vCenter object. It is highly recommended to use an account with Admin credentials to the vCenter environment.
And finally a quick summary showing the details before committing the changes.
Monitor Veeam Backup
With the same procedure we can now add also the Veeam Backup & Replication Server so we can use the Veeam ONE Monitor to manage the Backup Infrastructure. In this case we’ll go for the last option in the Add Server wizard. Let’s select the appropriate option. In my case both vCenter and Veeam Backup & Replication Server sit on the same virtual machine.
We need to specify here an account with local admin rights on the Veeam Backup & Replication Server.
And finally a summary showing the main connection settings.
As soon as the objects are added Veeam ONE Monitor will start collecting the information. Will also show the status of different components. Data will be available through different dashboards. The one below represents the Infrastructure View.
