Install Domino 8 for Lotus QuickR Server Part 1

Lotus Domino installation

Fairly recently I had the opportunity to assist a customer with regards to a content migration from Lotus QuickR platform to Office 365 using the DocAve Migration Platform. We had to use a specific version of Lotus QuickR so as per usual I did prepare a testing scenario to install Domino Server in my lab to run all the use cases. In this series of articles about QuickR Server installation I will go through different steps on how to install a Lotus QuickR server as outlined in the list below:

Part 1: Install Domino Server (this article)

Part 2: Configure Domino Server

Part 3: Install Lotus QuickR for Domino Server

Part 4: Configure QuickR Server LDAP settings

Part 1: Install Domino Server

For this deployment I will be using the following versions:

In order to prepare a Lotus QuickR Server installation we need first to provide and setup Domino Server environment. So here we are with these quick steps for an easy installation of IBM Domino Server. Let’s run the InstallShield main executable and follow through the steps:

Let’s accept the End User License Agreement and continue.

Let’s take a note where we do install the main binaries also making sure there is enough space for future growth. In terms of initial requirements they are not very big and can be accommodated in the vast majority of installs. Let’s make where to store the “.nsf” files as these are the native Notes Database Files where Lotus stores its content (notes storage file).

This is the default location where amongst other files also the .NSF Database files will be located. We can eventually choose a different location depending on requirements.

Let’s go with the option selected as per screenshot to install Domino Enterprise Server.

At this point the wizard to install Domino server has all the necessary information and provides a quick summary with the components and features that will be installed.

The wizard will now begin to copy the binaries and install Domino server.

The install only take a few minutes to complete. We can now click on finish to exit the install Domino server wizard.

Excellent! The installation completed successfully. Next step would be to run the first time configuration wizard for the Domino Server.

Will cover this on the next article!
