Here we are with another blog post on Exchange 2016 series of articles. Today we’ll cover the scenario on how to move the mailboxes between different Mailbox Databases. Actually the reasons for doing so are the most varied and in particular they fall into the realm of increased storage capacity to ever growing Storage performances. Whichever is the case moving mailboxes between databases it’s a very simple operation. The screenshot below show these simple steps
Let’s browse the Exchange ECP >Recipient > Migration page and click on the + button

Â
From here we can select the Mailboxes we want to move

Â

Â

Â
Let’s provide a name for this migration batch and the Database we want to use as a destination

Â
A new job is created and updated with the current status of operations. In addition the Details link on the right panel provides more info about the status of each mailbox

Â
Look like the job completed with no errors and this is reflected in the logs as well

Â
Rather than visiting the properties of each Mailbox User to check the current database location we can simply issue a one line PowerShell command like this:
“Get-Mailbox | select Alias,Database”
which will show the actual location of the Mailboxes we just moved as expected!

Â
We are now ready to move to the next topic about creating a Shared Mailbox
